Birthday Lunch for 2 @ Carousel

It’s sorta our (Yen and myself)’s tradition to have a good and atas birthday lunch together in the month of August because the both of us are born in this month! For this year, we are indulging ourselves at Royal Plaza – Carousel. It’s buffet style and it cost about $53 (all in) per pax after credit card discount and it was well worth it!

For me, I can’t eat a lot in a single meal, hence, to make my buffet worthwhile, I will start from the expensive food. I had sashimi (salmon, tuna and white fish), fresh prawns, crab claws, clams, mussels, scallops. OMG. The prawns and the crab claws are so big, fat, sweet and juicy.

The clams, mussels and scallops were meaty as opposed to those that I usually had in an international buffet. That is how fresh the seafood are! I usually love sashimi but seriously, with the prawns and crab claws around, the sashimi did not shine as much. However, it was still fresh and yummy!

One negative aspect that I felt that day, the crab claws were not refilled after the first round! It was only when I am leaving after 2 hours of eating, that the crab claws were refilled. Hu! How sad!

There was also cray fish. The usual cray fish that I had in a buffet was often small, non-juicy and tasteless but this one was not. It was very meaty, spongy and fresh. Nonetheless, I still prefer the crab claws! The highlight of the lunch was mainly seafood. The cooked stuff were good too, such as the Indian ‘Nan’, Squid Masala, Teriyaki Chicken, but I only had bits of it because seafood were my main targets. Heh!

The service at Carousel was superb! Yen made reservation online and she wrote the reason as ‘Birthday’. And we were surprised by the birthday cupcake. So sweet of them! Even helped us to take a photo and sent it to our emails in an electronic birthday card format. How nice!

The birthday cupcake was topped with many different coloured creams and it was such a pretty. The cream was so smooth and the cake itself was soft and fragrant. It was yummy despite that it was free. We really appreciated it.

The dessert section of the buffet was great with a wide spread though I was too full to try everything. There were different flavoured cakes, chocolate / strawberry fondue with fruits, puffs, marshmallows, cakes and ice cream! The cakes were not very much to my liking because I thought there’s a strong ‘milky’ taste. I love the chocolate fondue though. It is more of towards dark chocolate fondue? 🙂

A photo of Yen and myself. Feeling blissful that we are in the 9th year of friendship. ^^

After a satisfying lunch, took a photo at the hotel’s lobby before saying goodbyes to each other. And I am off to do some shopping alone. 🙂

Beautiful like Maldives @ Redang Island

When we saw the speedboat, we almost wanted to give up going to Redang Island. It was shaking up down left right, I have to hold on to every pole in the boat to get a seat. But when the speedboat started moving, it did not shake so much. Phew~~

The moment we reached Redang Island and walked to the beach, this was what welcomed me! And right at the moment, all the shakiness on the speedboat was well worth it! It is so blue and so pretty!!!!

A purple bungalow?! Anyway, love it. So fairy tale like! I am glad that the company chose Redang Island instead of other places. But the sun is so strong and burning! And I forgot to put on my SPF 130 sunblock! So I ended up getting sun burnt on my shoulders. Hu!

Masculine handsome guys!!! Woo Hoo~~~ The sun and the beach, feeling blissful.

With my colleagues. Having fun just by stepping bare-footed on the sand and in the clear blue sea water. 🙂

Can you see that the water is so clear! There are small white transparent fishes swimming around and I can see them!

Redang Lagoon. The sun is so scorching hot.

There’s a small open-aired non air-conditioned cafe with food and drinks. Also, there was a mini band singing. The atmosphere was really good and relaxing. The first time I am not worried about the sun burning me. Heh. At this moment, a coconut drink matches the holiday beachy atmosphere so well.

Colourful Ice Kachang. Erm…but I don’t really like the peanut in it. Somehow, peanut in Ice Kachang is weird. After the drink and dessert, we went back to the beach to play with the water. Fun! We went back to the cruise around 5pm to bath and have dinner. That’s all. The next day, we reached Singapore and that’s the end of our company’s short holiday. ^^

1st time on a CRUISE

I have never went on a cruise before, neither have I ever wanted to go on a cruise.  The reasons are because I have motion sickness (despite people telling me that cruise is very stable), I don’t like to be trapped in a place e.g. in the ship for so many days and I really don’t think there are any interesting stuffs to do on the ship.

If it is not a company sponsored trip, I don’t think I will ever go on a cruise. Despite feeling that it’s still a boring trip on board, well, still had a fun time with colleagues (of cos I meant those close ones). Oh did I mention that I went on Star Cruise Virgo?

The queue to board the cruise is so long and all the aunties / uncles are super kiasu that they are pushing to get into line. Once we boarded the cruise, we went to our room immediately. The first impression was not too good. The room door was opened with the signage ‘cabin cleaning in progress’. And there was a used towel on the floor.

After waiting for 5 minutes plus, room cleaner was here to remove the signage and pick up the used towel. We were then told that we could go into the room.  But there were no new towels being replaced! So I got hold of the cleaner and asked him. He said he will come back with the new towels later.

Oh well~since the cabin is still not ready, then why allow people to board? Anyway, above is a photo of the room. Small but cozy. Can’t expect too much. The porthole window is really just a porthole. -.-

The cruise was indeed QUITE stable.  The sensitive me could still feel a little ‘floating’ effect. Heh. The cruise will depart at 7pm. So we took some photos and off we were for a BBQ dinner. The crowd was too much and we took some time to look for an empty table. There were no plates and we had to wait for a while.

Once the plates were replenished, I only managed to grab 5 plates and the rest were ‘snatched’ by the aunties / uncles. Seriously, for the 3 days 2 nights that we were there, almost every meals, we had to queue and wait. Oh.. and drinks are not included.

Initially, we wanted to spend the night in KTV, but we were told that KTV was not included in the package. The price of the package is not cheap, I would say. However, the package included alcohol, so that explains the price, I guess.

At night, we went to the top deck of the ship to enjoy the sea breeze, which was quite shiok though the dark sea looked intimidating to me. The night ended with us having supper at 11.30pm (!!!).

The next day, breakfast was at one of the restaurant – Belle Vista. Erm… I was shocked when this came. Or rather I laughed. Such a sad looking breakfast, not what I expected. I thought we could have American Breakfast like those we had in a hotel. And I must say, the service is also ….., you get what I meant.

One thing that I enjoyed on cruise is the view on board. See ~ such a beautiful scene and the sea breeze is enjoyable too.

Lunch was at ‘The Pavilion’. Ya and I had to queue again! And the food quality was really just so-so. Fish tasted like fish, duck tasted like duck. Most of the time we spent on cruise was wandering about, chit chatting, gossiping and eating. Around 1.30pm, the cruise stopped in the middle of ‘don’t know where’ and we could start to board the speedboat to Redang Island! This was what I am most looking forward to for this cruise trip.  Till next post then! 🙂
